- During break I am spending a few days at my old high school observing in some classrooms in order to meet some requirements for my COE application. This lovely little piece of graffiti is still in the bathroom near my old art room. I remember it well from my days there. It is interesting how little some things change.

I just wanted to share this with everyone. I think this is one of the few really good podcasts I’ve ever heard. The Moth is a non-prof, traveling, live storytelling organization. I guess that description pretty much explains it. It’s kind of like a literary performance venue that moves around to New York, Chicago, Detroit etc. and features very famous to vaguely famous people who share their story with live audience. If you are a person that likes listening to good stories this is for you. I have yet to hear one that I wasn’t captured by. Enjoy

While at Birch Lodge eating free tacos and watching a bit of the Lions game on Sunday, Jake, Celia, Tyler, Lindsay, and I noticed the Jason Schwartzman AT&T commercial. We asked why Jason Schwartzman is doing AT&T commercials, Celia mentioned that he looks like he’s put on a few pounds, I mentioned that he looks like he’s put on a few years, Jake mentioned that it’s a good thing because he’s not a Hollywood fake, and we all agreed that when you look older and fatter, your career must be reduced to doing AT&T commercials.

I woke up at 8:30 this morning to check the GVSU website in inquiry of a possible closing: nothing, but that wasn’t surprising. I moved on to my email to inquire about individual professors possibly cancelling: again, nothing. Being a bit annoyed, I sucked it up, took a shower, bundled up, brushed off my car, drove, parked, waited for the bus, rode the bus, got to ASH for my Psych class, checked my email and behold: two emails, two cancelled classes.

Now, here I sit, waiting for a class that isn’t until 2:30, unable to go home, wondering if I’ll have my 6-9.

On the bright side, I got an A- on my last Capstone paper. Looks like I might get an A in my ENG Capstone. I like that.

when you don’t know what else to do, I find that you can always sleep. when things aren’t good, just sleep, because maybe you will dream about something good. you never know. for those people that have trouble sleeping, I don’t know what advice to give you. it would not be to try and sleep because nothing is worse than wanting to go to sleep but not being able to. i think you should probably just read. yes, if i had to give advice to someone that doesn’t know what else to do in their life i would say, “read.”

i would not say “write.” writing something makes it more permanent, and if you’re trying hard to put something behind you I would not suggest making it permanent. who knows, maybe you become happy again and then you find that piece of writing later and it just reminds you of all the things you don’t want to think about. basically what I am saying: if you are going through something unpleasant do your best to not think about it. maybe ignoring it will make it go away. this usually works if you try it.
